Whenever someone asks me the best way to get started with SEO, this is what I tell them.
Create really great content.
Lots of it.
And as a general rule, don’t write for Google: write for your target audience, whoever they are. Answer their frequently asked questions, address their objections, and help them overcome their pain points.
In other words: BE HELPFUL.
This is the whole strategy I used to get my business to 45k per month in organic search visitors.
I just listened to my customers, pre-empted their queries, and answered their questions in public.
Publish when you’re busy, publish when you’re tired. Just keep publishing high quality content.
And before long, you have a huge bank of proprietary content on your website.
When you’re just starting out, it can feel a lot like you’re writing content that nobody is reading.
But if you keep publishing, and keep being useful to other people, soon Google will start to take notice.
My name's Claire and I’m an SEO and content strategy expert. I help startups and ambitious businesses improve their content, so that customers can find your website in search, and so that when they do, they convert.
I’m a former startup CEO, and I’ve worked for some of the world’s biggest publishers (Penguin Random House, Oxford University Press), as well as training with Google's in-house SEO team. I even built a website to attract 45k in organic search visitors/month. Drop me a line if you need help of any kind with SEO and content.
